Audrey Hepburn – a name we all know. Arguably most famous for her role as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Her film career made her famous, but how she was offscreen is what keeps her shining today.
Audrey starred in dozens of films, working with hundreds of people, and would you believe it – not one person, from directors, to co-stars, to janitors has had something negative to say about her. She lived life with grace, and was kind to everyone.
In 1988, she began philanthropic work as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. She traveled al over the world, raised money, and awareness for the cause. And she didn’t just do it for publicity. In one of my favorite quotes about her, a UN photographer, said, “Often the kids would have flies all over them, but she would just go hug them. I had never seen that. Other people had a certain amount of hesitation, but she would just grab them”. She just loved people. Regardless of race, appearance, or social standing, she just loved them.
I could probably go on for days about her accomplishments and what an amazing person she was. Instead I just want to urge everyone to read more about her life, dozens of books have been published, one of my favorites is What Would Audrey Do?, it’s perfect for a summer read 🙂
Audrey was stylish in an unconventional way for her time, she was kind when others of her status weren’t, (and she was a philanthropist before Angelina made it cool). These are just some of the reasons she is not only my style, but also my life icon. If I can reflect even a shred of her inner beauty in my day to day interactions, I will consider the day a success.
